Methods
In order for all geophysical methods and techniques to be successful in characterizing the underground, there has be a measurable contrast between the physical properties of the target of investigation and those of it's surrounding environment. The physical properties commonly used in the field of geophysics are: magnetic susceptibility, electrical conductivity, density and elasticity.
Therefore, knowing which physical properties best describe a certain target is crucial in selecting the right method of investigation and the best method of interpreting the acquired data. We usually use a combination of methods to best describe a certain underground environment, depending on its particular characteristics.
